On land & water management the cornerstone of natural resource management .
Taking care of natural resources is the need of the hour. The global warming ‘has threatened the very existence of human civilization all over the world. United Nations has declared ‘Carbon-credit’ as one of the important development indicators for any country. Inspite of all these efforts, our mother earth is being threatened by our so-called civilized societies particularly by the’ developed world’. The ‘under-developed’ world is also not for away I the race. India, being a member of the ‘under-developed’ or so-called ‘developing world’ is highly at risk-zone. In the backdrop of the above, ‘MJS-Ranchi’- from its earlier days has been doing its best with its limited capacity to do something which help preserve natural resources, so that ecological system should be right order. .
For the primary producers, natural resource management means optimum utilization of earthen resources like water, soil, vegetation and organism with a view to conserve ecological balance. So that our future generations can be sate and secured enough. Our social, economic and environmental well-being depends largely on sustainably management of natural resources. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has implemented a umber project with the support of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD); Jharkhand Tribal Development Society (JTDS) in Ranchi and Sarikela-Kharsawa district of Jharkhand. The watershed development and management as one of our key areas of development initiative, to develop optimum watershed areas particularly in the hilly areas of Jharkhand with drainage, storm water-runoff, scientific, canal-roots of water to the nearly agriculture field with overall planning and utilization of watershed.
On agriculture & seed development programme
In the state of Jharkhand, more than 59% of workforce of the state depend on agriculture directly and indirectly. The cultivable land resources of the state have good potentiality of higher productivity of horticulture and forest products. We are continuously striving for better agriculture practices and are trying to develop through our WSHGS’ (Women Self Help Group) to develop modern scientific techniques of seed production. We have developed with the help of Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) the modern agriculture practices in the districts of Ranchi, Saraikela and West Singhbhum. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has encouraged an ‘Integrated Agriculture Farming’ in Silli block through its WSHG members. Paddy plantation activities in the Ranchi, simdega, East Singhbhum , Saraikela, groundnut plantation in Tamar block and ‘Arhar’ plantation in Bundu block in the Ranchi districts. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has participated to prompted and propagate the improved genetic breed of rice called- ‘System of Rice Intensification’ (SRI). For getting good harvest of crops from farming and also for sustainable livelihood, farmers must get quality and improved version of seed. For this MJS-Ranchi has conducted training programme among 100 no. of farmers at Nutandih in Saraikela-Kharsawa and Thakragutu in West Shinghbhum district of Jharkhand. Attributes in ‘SRI’ method was higher productively substantiated with less recourses utilization in addition to the above, the advantage under ‘SRI’ method of cultivation, instead of throwing the weeds outside the plot, turning the weeds into the soil by using of ‘weeder’, the soil gets aegreted and secondly the weeds get decomposed in the soil and make it organie by natural proposes, with this additional original matters the micro-organisms in the soil multiply manifold. This bio-fertilizing process helps to keep the soil health steady.
.On allied agricultural activities :
Under the ago-allied initiation, MJS-Ranchi have undertaken sericulture development activities under ‘RIF’ Project of ‘NABARD’. Sericulture is the art and science of raising silkworm for silk production. India is one of the largest silk producing counties in the world after China.
There are four different stages for development of silk-production:
‘MJS-Ranchi’ has conducted 15 days training from R.S.R.S., Ranchi for the development of mulberry plantation in Ranchi district under the ‘RIF’ Project of NABARD. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has successfully trained around 25 nos. of women for scientific sapling of mulberry plant and extraction of cocoon out of it. In ‘Silli’ block of Ranchi district our WSHG members have successfully run the plantation of mulberry and extraction of cocoon thereof. The beneficiaries were selected mainly Jakeri, Banta and Kashidih villages of silli block under Ranchi district.
Lac Cultivation
Another area of agro-allied sector which MJS-Ranchi has successfully completed is development of Lac Cultivation and manufacture of items made of Lac development of Kusumi brood lac with value addition of stick lac a project of ‘NABARD’ under Farmer Transfer Technology Fund(FTTF).
Vegetables, Goatery, Poultry, Piggery, Cluster Development
Under Mukhyamantri Anusuchit Janjati Gram Cilash Yojna, Under Jharkhand Government ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has successfully developed Goatery, Poulty and Piggery firms in different block of Ranchi district. The government of Jharkhand under its JTDS, under this project for propagating self employment and income-generation activities among the rural youth particularly belonging to the tribal population group. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ has developed goatery cluster in Tamar block of Ranchi district. Poultry and piggery cluster are developed in Rahe and Bundu under Tamar block. To make the project successful, MJS-Ranchi has imparted intensive training programmes to the rural tribal youth. As a part of the project, after training MJS-Ranchi have constructed sheds and afterwards, distribution of kids among the beneficiaries substantiated with constant follow-up.
Dairy Development
‘Under Mukhyamantri Anusuchit Janjati Gram Vikash Yojna’ – MJS-Ranchi has developed dairy development initiative in Namkum block of Ranchi district. These dairy units are successfully run by our WSHG members with their own proprietorship. Under agriculture and allied sector, dairy development is one of our priority areas as the milk production and supply in Jharkhand state is far below than the demand for milk in the state.
Farmers Club Initiatives
Farmers club is a concept initiated by NABARD in the year 1982 for propagating the development of collective knowledge of the farmers’ community in scientific and eco-friendly agriculture techniques through common facilitation center. Normally as a practice, ‘one farmer club in one village’ was an ideal. The principal of agri -development through technology transfer, credit-access, market awareness and capacity building if the individual farmers through collective mode. ‘MJS-Ranchi’ had initiated under the sponsorship of NABARD, 30nos of farmers’ club in Saraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand. Till the date, these are running successfully with the members’ active participation.
